    The Adult Learning Center Intake & Assessment Specialist

    Strong City Baltimore is a non-profit organization located in Baltimore City whose mission is to build and strengthen neighborhoods and people. 


    Overview of Position: 

    Strong City Baltimore is seeking an Intake & Assessment Specialist (IAS) for nonprofit, Adult Education work in Baltimore City. This is a full-time, 40-hour per week, exempt position (with some evenings required). The Intake & Assessment Specialist (IAS) takes the lead for conducting learner registration, assessment, and enrollment. Learner support is a necessary role to help learners be successful; this includes referrals to community partners and monitoring goal attainment. Learner waitlist management is shared with the Assistant Director and includes appropriate learner placement in tutoring and classes based on individual needs assessment, goal setting, and scheduling. Additionally, the IAS oversees all testing for the Adult Learning Center, including assisting teachers as necessary with standardized testing. The IAS is a member of the lead team, participating in annual Program-wide events; team meetings for learner support; program evaluation and improvement; and strategic planning.


    Specific responsibilities

    • Conduct learner intake, including all required documentation, to determine educational levels, schedules and goals; 
    • Provide educational advisement and support through case management of adult learners, including making appropriate professional referrals and maintaining a directory of community resources; 
    • Process registrations for and monitor progress for learners enrolling in GED-i; 
    • Administer standardized placement, pre-, and post-tests; 
    • Participate in team meetings for learner placement; 
    • Monitor learner progress, and communicating with teachers and learners, including assisting with identifying learners’ changing needs and goal achievement; 
    • Assist with the development of the class schedule with the Director and Instructional Specialists; 
    • Maintain inventory and integrity of assessments materials, monitoring appropriate distribution and use; 
    • Attend required professional development trainings; 
    • Participate in professional development workshops; 
    • Assisting, with the Director, in partnership development, including networking and relationship building for new resources; 
    • Participate in team meetings for Program evaluation and improvement;
    • Assist in implementing the Program’s Data Quality and Strategic Plans; 
    • Participate in activities of the Friends of Adult Learning and Program events; 
    • Staff office as needed;
    • Other duties as required by the program or requested by the Program Director or Chief Executive Officer.
    Qualifications: 
    • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree, particularly in education, psychology or counseling, preferred. 
    • Experience working collaboratively with diverse populations. 
    • Experience in and knowledge of adult education programs and related issues; 
    • Adult education teaching experience required; 
    • Experience and sensitivity in working collaboratively with diverse populations, including adult clients and volunteers; 
    • Excellent communication skills, written and oral; comfortable with public speaking and/or training; 
    • Knowledge and Proficiency of adult literacy assessments, including CASAS, WRAT, and TABE; 
    • Knowledge and Proficiency of Literacy Pro’s Literacy, Adult and Community Education System (LACES) data elements; experience preferred;

    • Computer literacy: knowledge of MS Office, desktop publishing, and database software;

    ESL Lecturers for Summer/Fall Programs

    We are looking for qualified and talented teachers for a variety of classes.


    DUTIES

    Prepare for and teach ESL courses as assigned and in accordance with curricular guidelines; inform students of course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance policies; maintain records of student attendance and academic progress/achievement, and submit them according to deadlines; attend faculty meetings as scheduled; assume other duties, which will vary according to the program in which the appointment is held.


    QUALIFICATIONS

    Master’s degree in TESOL preferred, or closely-related field, plus teaching experience in university-based ESL programs similar to the University of Pennsylvania’s ELP. Minimum qualifications: substantial coursework at the graduate level in TESOL or related field plus teaching experience. Compensation is commensurate with credentials and experience and with length/intensity of program.


    APPOINTMENT TERMS

    These are part-time appointments for the duration of the session. New Teacher Orientation will be held a few days prior to the start of the program.
